the best boy ever.

I know we all think our children are the best thing that ever happened. It's only natural. I feel so blessed to have each one of my precious children. I hope I am learning every day from their shining examples and willingness to learn! Here is why I am grateful for my son, Jack... At about 7:30 this morning we received a call saying that school was canceled due to inclement weather and roads. (See, it's not just me being a wimpy baby about the winter weather- the wind really is atrocious sometimes. That's why we have all these wind farms!) Anyway, during the day Jack was such a good brother to my girls. He was still a boy, but the kind that makes me think, 'This is why I wanted a big brother for my children.' He gave them a hand with some helping-out jobs they were doing, and showed them he likes them. A little attention and time spent together can go a long way. They were so happy around him, even though his ways of showing love weren't quite as quiet or gentle as I would do it... There was running from one part of the house to another with Emma on his back, and a sword fight with Mary using leaves of romaine lettuce, none of which was as quiet as you might expect! They also played basketball in an empty gym, and practiced words for the spelling bee. I am thankful my boy is big enough to help littler people feel big... That's the ticket :) And my little Emma especially just glowed with bright shiny confidence and love for her big brother. I believe it will be easy for my girls to understand the hero's love of our older Brother Jesus, because they are so blessed with one here and now, in the flesh. One who plays and works with them, who shows a personal interest in them and their lives, just because he cares. This satisfies my soul deeply and gives me such a sense of peace and contentment.

  2. Little hope of that! Last night he was finishing up dinner dishes in the kitchen... the rest of us had migrated to the living room, and he yelled out that there was a cow outside! We do have horse riders go past sometimes, so it was remotely possible... We all went to have a look, and he just laughed. Very nice. I think it was his little revenge for getting the job- he grossed me out at dinner, just for fun, and that's another story.
